Kyanite Press BINGO Starts Today!

Here’s something you didn’t know you needed: Kyanite Press BINGO!

Rules:

The BINGO board will be up and “in play” for the next two weeks, ending on Tuesday, February 5th. You have until then to claim a BINGO.

As you’ll see, this BINGO board is a little different than standard boards. Each space contains an element or theme from a story in one of the first three issues of the Kyanite Press. Identify the story the element corresponds to and mark the space with the title using your favorite graphic editor or you can even do it on paper and send us a picture. Connect any five spaces and you can claim a BINGO. (Alternatively, you can provide us a list of answers using a standard grid format, such as “Self-Reflection” being square B2 – A through E across the top, and 1 through 5 down the side.)

For every BINGO you identify, you’ll be awarded an eBook from our catalog of your choosing! For a BLACKOUT, you’ll be awarded three eBooks of your choosing and a paperback copy of our Fables and Fairy Tales Digest!

Please do not share your answers online. If you claim a BLACKOUT, you cannot also claim individual BINGO(S). Claim your awards by emailing your answers to info@kyanitepublishing.com before February 28th, 2019.

Discuss (but do not share your answers) on Twitter using hashtag #kyanitebingo. Thanks for playing!

Kyanite Kiss Goodbye

As part of our strategic planning for 2019 and based on feedback from our readers and authors, we are reorganizing our imprints. The most substantial change is that the titles we’ve contracted under Kyanite Kiss will be published under Kyanite Publishing. Kyanite Kiss will cease to exist as of this month.

We hope this will eliminate any confusion about science fiction and fantasy being our primary genres at this time. All of the stories we publish with romance elements are also science fiction or fantasy, and we are primarily focused on that readership at this time.

Please contact info@kyanitepublishing.com if you’d like additional information about our imprints, catalog, and submissions policy.

14 Hours Left to Score Cyber Monday Discounts

Our Cyber Monday sale ends at 12 pm GMT on November 27th, which means there are just about 14 hours left!

Rather than repeat the same information about what’s on sale, we want to share more about the stories and authors that are being showcased today!

You can learn more about our authors, including the ones not being featured for Cyber Monday, right here on our website.

Anthony D Redden is a writer of dark fiction and the author of Dead Boat. He lives in a small village in the heart of England with his wife, three children, and two cats. He is currently undertaking a Master of Arts in Creative Writing at Teesside University and is a big fan of Horror, Science Fiction and coffee. He has been published in several magazines and anthologies.

More about Dead Boat:

The year is 1726 and Harvey, a young Fishmonger’s son is awaiting his death upon the gallows. His fortune changes when he is offered a last-minute deal that could win him a full pardon and a new life in England. Unfortunately, not everything is as it seems. Harvey is about to get a harsh lesson in life aboard a ship surrounded by convicts. Worse yet is the cargo they carry – the corpses of 316 English soldiers. When a powerful blood curse starts to bring the dead to life, the crew of ‘The Charon’ will wish they had stayed to face the executioner.

You can learn more about Anthony on his website.

Jonathan Lazar, the author of Zachariah Lars and the High Elf Mysterywas born in 1985 to the greatest generation that there is: the Nintendo Generation! The eldest of three male siblings, Jonathan is the only creative one. His brothers inherited the sports genes. Originally from the Chicago area, he has lived in Michigan, middle-of-nowhere Illinois, Saint Louis, and currently Tucson. When he’s not writing Fantasy or Science Fiction; he draws, cooks, bakes, and stuffs his face full of sushi or pizza that he has made. He shares two Siamese cats with his husband, whom he met in college.  Or rather – he would say – the Siamese cats (Ping and Pong) share them.

Find out more about Jonathan and his writing here on his website.

More about Zachariah Lars and the High Elf Mystery:

150 Years Ago:
The Veil, which kept the mystical and magical hidden, broke. Humans were forced to integrate with those that they deemed mythological and the world got more complicated.

Present Day: Saint Louis, Missouri, New World
Zachariah Lars, former Magi Police Officer, turned Private Investigator takes the cases that the Magi won’t touch.
When the mysterious line of African High Elves make their presence known in the New World, in time for the High Elves Annual Remembrance Ball, Zachariah is visited by their emissary, High Princess Mahtab.
She believes someone is looking to assassinate her, and will pay handsomely for Prince Juraxxus of the Saint Louis High Elves to be brought to Justice.

Zachariah must piece together the mystery of not only this stunningly beautiful African High Elf, but also, if Juraxxus is behind the assassination attempts on the High Princess’s life.

And he only has three days to accomplish the task.

Mystery, intrigue, humor, magic and foul language abound in this series by Jonathan M. Lazar.

Joseph Kassabian, the author of Citizen of Earth, served 8 years in the US Army and multiple tours in support of the Global War On Terror. After he got tired of getting yelled at for wearing the wrong hat, he exited the Army to pursue a career in writing. He has used the bitter, jaded, and sarcastic sense of humor that he learned in the ranks and turned it into books, articles, and a podcast. Joe spends his time with his dog in the Great Moist Northwest while screaming at a laptop screen.

Joseph is also the author of Hooligans of Kandahar, a memoir of his second tour in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.  Hooligans won the 2017 eLit Awards Gold Medal in Current Events and has sat as a #1 Bestseller on Amazon in the Central Asian History category.  You can find Hooligans of Kandahar here.

You can find Joe on Twitter here.

More about Citizen of Earth:

Earth is united under the iron grip of the Central Committee and its benevolent dictator, The Chairman. The powerful Earth Defense Forces protect the vast Human Empire that stretches throughout the galaxy, standing alone against the alien hordes known as The Alliance.

Vincent Solaris is a teenage malcontent who barely graduated from the Detroit District Six School of Ethics.  His unplanned future changes dramatically when he is arrested and charged with crimes against the Central Committee. Rather than being put to death, he is sentenced to three year’s service in the Earth Defense Forces.

Relieved by this twist of fate, Vincent is sent off to train at the local Replacement Depot. Any dreams of him lazing away his years of servitude are shattered when the Alliance attacks. The Earth Defense Force is rushed off to war through the stars, and Vincent is hurtled into a war he never wanted.

Along with Fiona – a Martian gangster serving a life sentence – he must find a way to survive the harsh killing fields of war against the most terrifying foe humanity has ever seen.

Alexander Thomas, the author of The Magician’s Sin, is also a game designer, dog lover, karaoke enthusiast, and all around nerd. You may know him from his work on roleplaying games including Mutants & Masterminds for Green Ronin and New Millennium Games, as well as Quantum Black. Madness at Miracle Mile is a fantasy noir short story set within the same universe of his debut novel The Magician’s Sin.

You can connect with him on his website here.

More about The Magician’s Sin:

Titan City, 1933

The wizard Anson Walker’s cynical retirement is thrown into chaos when the daughter of his ex-wife hires him to rescue her mother. Her kidnapping is only days before the Aberration, a cosmic event every century when the rules of magic don’t apply. As Anson dives into the criminal underworld of Titan City, he uncovers an ancient conspiracy, the return of a decades-old nemesis, and dredges up feelings he thought long gone. Will he rescue his old flame, or succumb to the sinister forces arrayed against him?

Inspired by emotions, River author Ryen Lesli writes about the realities of a teen in today’s world. Ryen’s wicked tongue matches her beloved stiletto nails. The sharper the better, and yes, she can type with them. She wants to make you laugh hysterically while falling helplessly in love with her kids, just so she can break your heart and force you to give into your ugly crying. She loves pain and only yours will do.

Check our Ryen’s website here.

More about River:

Does she have a secret life? One even she doesn’t know about?

Ever since seventeen-year-old River can remember, she’s felt as if she didn’t belong.  She sees a light around people which reveals their true nature.  When a new kid shows up at school who she can’t read, the mystery surrounding him fills her with dread.  Upon seeing him something inside her breaks open, unleashing a wave of raw emotion and faint visions of an emerald-eyed boy that she doesn’t remember.  Still, he seems strangely familiar.  Soon, River’s world changes and everything she thought was real fades away. Taken from the life she knows, River is forced into a dangerous yet beautiful world that has been impatiently awaiting her return.

Hailing from the capital of the Great White North [Canada]Stephen Coghlan spends his days erecting buildings, and his nights reveling in the dreamscape. He is the author of Urban Gothic and since 2017, he has produced a myriad of flash fictions, short stories, novellas and novels, including, but not limited to, the GENMOS Saga and the Nobilis series. He’s also had his works read on podcasts and featured in anthologies.

You can visit his website here.

More about Urban Gothic:

Burned out and drugged up, Alec LeGuerrier spends his days faking his way through society.  He barely ekes out an existence while living in a haze of confusion and medicated mellowness until he stops a gang of nightmarish oddities from killing a strange young woman with indigo eyes.

Dragged into the twisted lands of the dreamscape; he must come to terms with his brutal past, his inability to feel for the present, and his lack of dreams for the future in a land of strange dreams and horrible nightmares.  When the world of the unreal becomes his reality, he will finally shed the fog of apathy and find a cause worth fighting for.

Born in Vermont in 1981, John Prescott – author of After – now lives with his wife and two children in a small southern town in Iowa. He works as an Auto Detailer during the day and writes at night. He also maintains FatMopZoo.com, his website. He hopes to develop his writing into a career.

More about After:

Alex heard the reports on the nightly news his father always had playing in the background. Threats of nuclear Armageddon were becoming ominously commonplace. Still, he never thought he’d live to see the day that the rhetoric became reality.

He thought wrong.

He and his father raced for the military Cryo-Facility as reports poured in of nuclear missile launches from both sides. Alex closed his eyes in his cryopod and said a silent prayer for his mother. He awoke fifty-two years later in a facility full of nothing but corpses.

Now Alex ventures into a world he does not know. He will try to find his father – who might yet live, and his mother – who surely couldn’t have survived; in the After.

Murder in Mind author Majanka Verstraete has written more than twenty unique works of fiction. A native of Belgium, Majanka’s novels explore the true nature of monsters: the good, the bad, and just about every species in between. Her young adult books include the acclaimed “Mirrorland” (YA Dark Fantasy) and “Angel of Death” (YA Paranormal) series of novels. Majanka is the author of a YA shifter series with a fresh take on fierce female detectives called “The Adventures of Marisol Holmes”.  The first volume in her NA Paranormal Series, “Ghostslayer” released in June 2018.  Next to young adult books, she has also written a variety of children’s picture books and chapter books, including the “Weirdville” and “Valentina’s Spooky Adventures” series.

Find her on Twitter.

More about Murder in Mind:

Since psychology has been used to predict criminal activity, it’s been nearly impossible to get away with murder. But the person who slaughtered Rey’s parents in front of her did, and now she’s locked up in a mental hospital because her broken mind makes her a threat to society. Rey accepted that her chances of ever seeing daylight again are slim until her sister shows up with terrifying news of a murder similar to that of their parents. Rey’s sister is a cop and is asking her to help to solve the murder.

The answers are buried inside Rey’s mind, but to find the monster that killed her parents she’ll have to remember the night that changed her life forever. And if she believes what society wants her to believe, then she’s only a small step away from becoming a monster herself.

Enkelli Arn Robertson, author of Blood Shadow: A Vera Shadow Mystery, is a speculative fiction author who tells the truth by writing lies.  He enjoys spending time in his own worlds, which he sometimes invites others to visit. He is an avid student of military history; which often informs his writing. He is also a tabletop gamer with interest in numerous role-playing games and miniature war games.

Find him on Twitter.

More about Blood Shadow: A Vera Shadow Mystery

Vera Shadow, private detective, is used to taking on the more unusual cases. Demons and vampires are no stranger to her, but when a mysterious woman hires Vera to find a missing college student she finds herself on a case with more layers of secrecy than she expected. The trail leads Vera from the dormitory of Dorwich Institute of Magic to a seedy nightclub, and from an upscale penthouse to the docks. Little does she know, the rabbit hole goes deeper than she thinks.

Kyanite Press: Volume 1, Issue 2 – Launching Today

Volume 1, Issue 2 of the Kyanite Press launches today. This issue takes a look at the human condition from many unique angles and is sure to delight fans of the format. The paperback edition is available for order, and pre-orders will be shipping shortly. The eBook edition has been delayed due to an “extended maintenance window” with our ISBN providor. We do not have an estimate on when this will be resolved, but are working to find a way around the issue.

This issue of the Kyanite Press contains some amazing stories that all examine the human condition in one way or another. From the introspective psychology of “The Teacup” by David McAlister to the grand social drama of “Stone Faces” by Marcus Hansson, these stories all examine different facets of our humanity. Be it exploring our deepest fear – the fear of the unknown – or showing how a society of people works together to overcome obstacles. “Worth Dying For” by Chad D. Christy and “Breakpoint” by Darius Jones both explore questions of what makes us human and what we would do to preserve what is most important to us. “The Greatest Confidence” by Martin Berman-Gorvine explores ways in which we prey upon and take advantage of the trust of others. “In the Under Realm” by Steven M. Nedeau shows the human spirit to fight for our survival. “Below the Cubicle Sea” by Dennis Mombauer examines the mark we leave on the world and ways in which the world might one day work to erase those marks, illustrating the uncomfortable truth that all we do is potentially fleeting and temporary in the grand scheme of the cosmos.

2018 Open Submission Window Closing Today

Our 2018 open submissions window is closing today. We would like to take a moment to reflect upon our journey so far, and to thank all those who have come with us on it.

In the middle of July, 2018, three intrepid souls kicked off the bold idea of starting a new publishing company that focused on the author, the craft of writing, and seeking out amazing storytelling to share with the world. Since then, Kyanite Publishing has grown to present stories from over sixty authors; and continues to grow.

“I’m blown away at the response we received from the writing community as a whole. The level of enthusiasm expressed about what we are doing here – on a daily basis – is inspiring. We have received over one hundred submissions of novelettes, novellas, and novels to be considered for publication. We have signed contracts on about twenty of those, and still have many exciting stories working through our acquisitions process.”  — B.K. Bass, Acquisitions Director, Kyanite Publishing, LLC

All of us at Kyanite Publishing would like to thank all of the authors, artists, editors, and marketers who have reached out with a desire to contribute to building this into something amazing. Without all of you, we would not be where we are today.

Our 2018 open submission window ran from August 1st to October 31st. This window will close as of midnight, November 1st, 2018. After this time we will be accepting submissions only by invitation, with the exception of submissions for our journal, anthology projects, and special calls for submissions.

We still have many other projects in the works that we will be accepting open submissions for, such as our Remnants anthology and ‘Punk-Genre anthology. We anticipate more projects like these in the future, and will be looking for submissions outside of the open submission window for them.

Our next open submission window will be in September of 2019, from the 1st through the 30th. While this window is much shorter than our last, we feel that there is adequate awareness and lead time for authors to prepare for this.

We are still working through a lot of submissions, and will continue to do so in the coming months. If you have work submitted already, we will be in touch!

Thank you once again to everybody who has joined us on this amazing journey! We can’t wait to see what we discover together!
