Feathers and Fae
by Crystal L. Kirkham
Emmett and Kami have always been best friends, but Emmett’s shadowy past catches up with him when a dark force chases them into the realm of Mythos. In this strange world, Kami is suddenly able to tell whether a person is being honest or not, and she discovers that everything Emmett has ever told her was a lie – even his name.
Despite this, Emmett needs Kami to trust him enough to get her back to safety as the dangerous journey ahead puts their friendship to the test. As dark forces close in on them, the web of lies Emmett has built begins to unravel and Kami demands the truth; a truth that will shake the foundations of everything she ever believed.

The characters were very well-developed and the relationship between Kami and Emmett was just what you would expect from two people who were supposed to be lifelong friends. When Kami is able to sense Emmett’s lies, the tension between them adds a measure of intensity to the story, especially when Aseth is practically on top of them! Even when everything seems hopeless the reader can’t help but root for these two and the friends who help them. The ONLY thing I was missing was more detail in the world-building. That lack may have been due to the fact that the characters were on a journey that took them through a few different regions of Mythos. Whatever the cause, I struggled to visualize the world as a whole but it wasn’t enough to detract from the enjoyment of the story!
Not my normal read but this did not disapoint at all. Such a wonderful young adult fantasy book. Angels, Fae, Reapers, Seer’s, Yeti, do many amazing different creatures that this author created in this world. This book is about two humans that are being tracked by an evil creature. So much unfolds in this story, they go through different realms to escape and save their lives. Em or Emmett or Emeniel is the secretive protective man of the story. I just love his character, so protective and powerful even though nobody knows it. He cares more than he should but keeps it all to himself even though it kills him. Kami is something else entirely so strong and stubborn and free spirited. When you learn what she really is her personality really makes sense. I’m trying not to give away spoilers but its so hard because this is a must read for anyone that loves fantasy and getting transported through a book to another world in this case numerous worlds. I will be on the lookout for more by this author she is amazing.
