Say Hello to Our New Acquisitions!

In fall 2019, we invited authors to submit their speculative fiction manuscripts with or without representation. The acquisitions committee reviewed those manuscripts and made final recommendations, resulting in a wave of offers. True to our mission, most offers were made to authors already published with us, including A.R. Vagnetti, Michael D. Nadeau, Jonathan Lazar, Joseph Kassabian, Crystal L. Kirkham, Aisha Tritle, and Chad D. Christy.

FULL LIST OF NEW ACQUISITIONS

The “Storm” series by A.R. Vagnetti. The first book in the series, “Forgotten Storm,” was acquired in 2018 and published in 2019. Described as “steamier than expected” with “amazing worldbuilding,” the series will continue with “Forbidden Storm,” scheduled for publication in summer 2020.

“The Lythinall Saga” by Michael D. Nadeau. The first book, “The Darkness Returns,” was acquired in 2018 and published in 2019. Endorsed by Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms, this epic fantasy series has won fans internationally. The second book in the saga, “The Darkness Within,” is scheduled for publication in summer 2020.

The “Case Files of Zachariah Lars” series by Jonathan Lazar. The first book in the series, “Zachariah Lars and the High Elf Mystery,” was acquired in 2018 and published in 2019. Future plans for the fantasy detective include both novellas and novels. The next installment, “Zachariah Lars and the Time Travel Conundrum,” is scheduled for publication in fall 2020.

The “Galaxy on Fire” trilogy by Joseph Kassabian. The first book in the trilogy, “Citizen of Earth,” was acquired in 2018 and published in 2019. The second book in the trilogy, “The Great Traitor,” is scheduled for publication in summer 2020. Robyn Bennis, author of the Signal Airship series, said: “Half Old Man’s War and half Matterhorn, Citizen of Earth is a twisty, turny adventure filled with sass and action.” Kassabian is known for his sharp humor and war commentary.

“Falling Light” by Crystal L. Kirkham. This fantasy romance novel is scheduled for publication in 2021. Crystal L. Kirkham is the author of “Feathers and Fae” and several other works.

“Endgame” by Aisha Tritle is a science fiction novelette scheduled for publication on February 14, 2020. Kyanite Publishing LLC will also publish Tritle’s science fiction novel “Life2” in 2020.

“Ales, Agents, and Alchemy” by Jabe Stafford is a fantasy thriller scheduled to be published in 2021. It is the first book in the series. Jabe Stafford has also contributed to the “Kyanite Press: Journal of Speculative Fiction.”

“The Dark Corners of Eschos” by Chad D. Christy is a cosmic horror novella set in the same world as his forthcoming novel “Through the Blind,” both of which will be published in 2020, along with a science fiction novelette titled “Worlds.”

“Dead Town” by Anthony D. Redden. The second book in the “Dead Trilogy”, set for publication in 2020.

“Around the Dark Dial” by J.D. Sanderson. This science fiction, short story collection will be published in 2020.

FUTURE ACQUISITIONS

The next open invitation for submissions will be in March 2020, though it will be limited to a small subset of genres (details to follow). More acquisitions are expected throughout the year.

Join Our Book Club!

In an effort to expand our community and reach readers in new ways, we’ve created a book club! We will be facilitating it in our Discord server, which you can join here. Discord is a place to chat, and our server is separated into categories and channels, each with their own topics.

All individuals who join will have access to a separate category of channels called the “Kyanite Book Club” and underneath they’ll see a channel for each book that’s selected.

Every month, we’ll select two books: one in the science fiction genre, and one in the fantasy/horror genre. Readers will be able to choose which titles interest them and interact only in the channels they’d like to. In other words, each book will have its own space and will be like its own club.

Benefits of Membership

We’ll be offering anyone who joins and participates in the channel a 30% discount off the eBook, paperback, or hardcover edition of the selected book(s) through our website. The coupon code will be posted in the channel. Readers are also welcome to purchase their book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or through their local indie bookstore and still participate in the book club channels!

The author of each selected book will be informed ahead of time, so they’ll occasionally pop in and interact with readers. We’ll also schedule a general Q&A with them that will take place LIVE in the Discord channel!

We also hope that readers will gain a sense of community from this endeavor, possibly even branching out to the other Kyanite Discord channels. They may even make new friends or professional connections.

Guidelines

All participants are expected to follow the Kyanite Publishing Discord server guidelines. They are posted inside the server under “Royal Decrees” and generally include being kind and respectful.

Upcoming Selections

July:

Citizen of Earth by Joseph Kassabian!

More Details

The coupon code will be posted as soon as the channel is set up, and prior to the beginning of the month, to give readers time to order and for us to fulfill those orders. Note again that readers can also choose to purchase the book elsewhere, or rent it from the library, and still participate in the channels!

Because it may take readers some time to receive and read their books, we’ll keep the channel for that book open for at least two months. So, if a book is selected for July, it doesn’t mean that the discount is only good in July or that the discussion can only happen in July. It can also roll into August, and if readers request it, we’ll keep the channel open even longer.

Our Role

We’ll be encouraging the participants in the channel to interact in a way that feels authentic for them. Should they choose to organize themselves, make use of the voice chat features in Discord, or request support from us to put together meetings, we’ll do everything we can to help. We will not be organizing any structured meetings beyond the live Q&A with the author, which will take place sometime in their selection month or the month following.

We look forward to hearing your feedback and hope to see you in Discord!

Sincerely,

The Kyanite Crew

The trailer for Citizen of Earth by Joseph Kassabian is now live on our YouTube channel!

Available for pre-order now here on our website and on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

From Joseph Kassabian – the bestselling author of Hooligans of Kandahar – Kyanite Publishing proudly presents Citizen of Earth: The Galaxy on Fire, Book One.

Vincent Solaris is a teenage malcontent who barely graduated from the Detroit District Six School of Ethics. His unplanned future changes dramatically when he is arrested and charged with crimes against the Central Committee. Rather than being put to death, he is sentenced to three years’ service in the Earth Defense Forces. Relieved by this twist of fate, Vincent is sent off to train at the local Replacement Depot. But any dreams of him lazing away his years of servitude are shattered when an alien horde called the Alliance attacks. On their way to the harsh killing fields of war, Vincent meets Fiona, a Martian gangster serving a life sentence. Together, they must find a way to survive against the most terrifying foe humanity has ever seen.
