We have four books releasing in August, and all of them are exceptional in their own way. Check out the schedule below for more information!
August 2nd, 2019: After by John Prescott
Alex heard the reports on the nightly news. Threats of nuclear Armageddon were becoming ominously commonplace. Still, he never thought he’d live to see the day that the rhetoric became reality.
He thought wrong.
He and his father raced for the military cryofacility as descriptions poured in from England and the US of nuclear missile launches from both sides.
Alex’s father tried to reassure him that his mother would make it to safety. There was still time. Alex closed his eyes in his cryopod and said a silent prayer.
He awoke to blaring klaxons and flashing lights. The people in the pods beside him were dead. He was completely alone. Fifty-two years had passed.
Now Alex ventures into a world he does not know. He will try to find his father, who might yet live, and his mother, who surely couldn’t have survived, in the After.

August 9th, 2019: Parting the Veil by B.K. Bass
American socialite Richard Jericho is a world-renowned treasure hunter.
British professor of archaeology Wilkins Chapman is his stoic compatriot.
Together, the two have uncovered antiquities from South America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. On their most recent trip to the jungles of Peru, they discover something more than they expected.
As the fabric of reality comes apart, the two must journey across the globe chasing clues. As one answer leads to more questions, they begin to piece together a puzzle older than primal memory itself.
And the more they part the veil, the more of what lies beyond the veil spills into our reality.

August 13th, 2019: Loved Mars, Hated the Food by Willie Handler
Dix Jenner, a self-proclaimed slacker, is the first chef to live—and maybe die—on Mars. After an explosion kills his colony companions and leaves him with nothing but his spacesuit, his time on the faraway planet is about to expire… until he’s rescued by friendly Martians Bleeker and Seepa, who smuggle him into their vast underground civilization.
Despite an unfamiliar world of telepathy, strange class dynamics, and really bad food, Dix sets out to make his mark. After opening a cafe—who knew Martians loved espresso?—he starts to notice that responsibility can feel good. Not only that, but he’s got a new romance, and for the first time he actually cares.
Unfortunately, his success attracts the attention of the corrupt and narcissistic Martian Grand Leader. Forced to run to avoid being imprisoned, Dix gets lucky: a NASA rescue mission lands on Mars. But seeing it brings back the dark secret he’s been keeping from himself about the colony’s explosion, and now Dix must choose between returning to Earth or spending the rest of his life in a cell on the dusty red planet where he belongs.

August 23rd, 2019: Preservation Protocol by John Prescott
In the far future, robots and human-like Synthetics have become a part of everyday life for the citizens of New Wave City. Detective Max Kincaid’s okay with the robots, but the Synthetics? Not so much.
That becomes a problem after a meeting with Daryl Marston propels him into a murder conspiracy directly involving the artificial humans, something that should be impossible. Max soon finds himself working with the machines he despises to discover who wants Daryl dead. In the process, he learns Synthetics can be as unique as the humans they emulate.
Digging deeper, Max finds an ever-widening conspiracy that involves two warring factions of enhanced Synthetics and the company that created them. What he discovers brings into question whether he even truly knows who he has been working with.
Who is real, who is Synthetic, and who is the next target? Max finds himself in a race to sort it all out before Daryl, and possibly humanity runs out of time.

What if we lived in a world where the government could assess your mental health, without any criminal activity or precursor, and commit you to a facility against your will? That’s the future Majanka Verstraete explores in Murder in Mind, led by a protagonist who’s been institutionalized after watching her parents murder. If you’re interested in science fiction, psychological thrillers, and/or dystopian futures, you may find yourself devouring this phenomenal story in one sitting.
You can purchase Murder in Mind directly from us, or from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or other online retailers. You can also request a copy at your local bookstore, you’ll just need the International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Our Book Club
As you may have read earlier this month, we have a book club starting up this month! July’s featured books are Citizen of Earth by Joseph Kassabian and River by Ryen Lesli! Both books are 30% off with the coupon code, which is hiding in the book club channel for each book inside our Discord server. The book club is a casual, interactive way to chat with other readers AND the authors about the books! We’re excited to be able to offer this.
As noted above, the Kyanite Collector’s Pass is on sale for $39/year through the 7th of July! The Collector’s pass grants you membership through the Kyanite Publishing website and access to EVERY eBook we’ve published so far, along with every eBook we’ll publish throughout your membership term. All our books come out as eBooks, so you can see what you’ll get and will be getting by browsing our shop and upcoming releases page. This is a great value and we hope it’ll connect our readers with even more of our authors and stories!
Our semi-annual sale continues today with 20% off pre-orders of The Darkness Returns by Michael D. Nadeau.
Our Collector’s Pass, a membership which grants unlimited access to all our eBooks throughout the twelve-month term — including The Darkness Returns — is still on sale through the 7th of July for only $39!
We’ll have a new one-day offer for you tomorrow. Until then, happy reading!
We’re almost halfway through 2019, and we’ve already published sixteen books. We’ve still got a long way to go before we close out the year, with seventeen new titles set to release between now and 2020. Check out our upcoming releases page for an updated list of what’s currently on our calendar through 2021!
To celebrate our authors, catalog, and customers, we’ve been hard at work developing new ways for readers to connect with our stories. We’ve recently launched a book club, hosted a series of author roundtables on Youtube, and started production on a few audiobooks. As time goes on, our goal is to solidify our place in the world of speculative fiction by continuing to adapt to the changing landscapes of web commerce and publishing. Our next offering is a great example of that!
Unlimited access to all the eBooks we’ve released so far, along with all the eBooks that release during the term
25% off all print orders
*Every book we’ve released and will release is available as an eBook
*When you purchase the pass, you’ll automatically be sent a login and a password to manage your account and downloads for the term
For a limited time, the Kyanite Collector’s Pass is on sale for only $39 for the year! If you purchase it today, by the time your membership is over you’ll have access to over 40 books! That’s less than a dollar per eBook, not to mention the 25% print order discount!
Other Sale Items
Our new Collector’s Pass isn’t the only item on sale. We’re also offering 20% off a different pre-order or new release each day. We’ll be announcing the featured book each morning on social media, and our website will reflect the sale price (no coupon necessary). If you aren’t on social media, the easiest way to keep up will be to check the shop page daily for new deals.
We wouldn’t exist without the generosity of the reading community. We appreciate your support! If you get a chance, please help us spread the word about our new membership and our semi-annual sale by sharing this blog post or any of our social media posts with the readers in your life.
In an effort to expand our community and reach readers in new ways, we’ve created a book club! We will be facilitating it in our Discord server, which you can join here. Discord is a place to chat, and our server is separated into categories and channels, each with their own topics.
All individuals who join will have access to a separate category of channels called the “Kyanite Book Club” and underneath they’ll see a channel for each book that’s selected.
Every month, we’ll select two books: one in the science fiction genre, and one in the fantasy/horror genre. Readers will be able to choose which titles interest them and interact only in the channels they’d like to. In other words, each book will have its own space and will be like its own club.
Benefits of Membership
We’ll be offering anyone who joins and participates in the channel a 30% discount off the eBook, paperback, or hardcover edition of the selected book(s) through our website. The coupon code will be posted in the channel. Readers are also welcome to purchase their book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or through their local indie bookstore and still participate in the book club channels!
The author of each selected book will be informed ahead of time, so they’ll occasionally pop in and interact with readers. We’ll also schedule a general Q&A with them that will take place LIVE in the Discord channel!
We also hope that readers will gain a sense of community from this endeavor, possibly even branching out to the other Kyanite Discord channels. They may even make new friends or professional connections.
All participants are expected to follow the Kyanite Publishing Discord server guidelines. They are posted inside the server under “Royal Decrees” and generally include being kind and respectful.
The coupon code will be posted as soon as the channel is set up, and prior to the beginning of the month, to give readers time to order and for us to fulfill those orders. Note again that readers can also choose to purchase the book elsewhere, or rent it from the library, and still participate in the channels!
Because it may take readers some time to receive and read their books, we’ll keep the channel for that book open for at least two months. So, if a book is selected for July, it doesn’t mean that the discount is only good in July or that the discussion can only happen in July. It can also roll into August, and if readers request it, we’ll keep the channel open even longer.
We’ll be encouraging the participants in the channel to interact in a way that feels authentic for them. Should they choose to organize themselves, make use of the voice chat features in Discord, or request support from us to put together meetings, we’ll do everything we can to help. We will not be organizing any structured meetings beyond the live Q&A with the author, which will take place sometime in their selection month or the month following.
We look forward to hearing your feedback and hope to see you in Discord!
As you may have seen on social media, we started a Writer Wednesday webcast last month. All of our authors and Kyanite Press contributors are invited to attend each week. We have a theme for each “episode” and so far we’ve talked about characters, world building, first drafts, author branding, and publishing.
Our last episode was recorded on 5/22/2019, and it marked the first time we had invited authors who weren’t associated with our publishing company to attend. The topic was publishing, and we had been looking forward to a roundtable full of experience in self-publishing, hybrid publishing, and traditional small and large press publishing.
Our target audience for these webcasts are both readers and writers who are curious about the publishing industry and the craft of writing. We’re very pleased so far with the turnout and we’re planning to expand our YouTube channel with additional webcasts. We’re also planning to move into podcasting, which we’ll be experimenting with later this year.
If you haven’t yet, check out our YouTube channel and subscribe! If you’re feeling especially generous, share it with your friends and family who love reading or writing!
We’re excited to offer a preview of the July/August issue of the Kyanite Press! This is our last issue in Volume 1 featuring stories across all sub-genres of science fiction and fantasy, just like the first issue (Sept/Oct 2018)!
Stay tuned for more details, including who will be contributing and who won the feature spot!
