Kyanite Press Volume 1 Issue 6

Volume 1, Issue 6 of the Kyanite Press is now available for pre order! CLICK HERE to be sure to get a copy from the first print run!

Returning to the feel of the first ever issue back in September of 2018; rather than having a single theme, we have assembled here a mixture of fantasy, science fiction, and weird tales. Everything from space travel to sword-wielding heroics can be found within these pages. One of the most wonderful outcomes of publishing the journal has been discovering a variety of stories with styles and themes we might have never otherwise dreamed of, and this issue showcases that.

The Kyanite Press is a journal of speculative fiction.  Inside this homage to the pulp magazines of the last century you will find tales of science fiction, fantasy, and horror from some of the most imaginative authors in the genre.  Every issue is packed with fiction and NO commercial advertising, just information about Kyanite Publishing books and authors!  Explore amazing new worlds, travel to exotic realms, and delve inside the human mind in ways you will never see anywhere else!

New Release: Ashes of the Fae by Sophia LeRoux

Some stories scare you, some keep you in suspense, some make you hot under the collar. It’s rare that one can do it all, but Ashes of the Fae fits that description perfectly. It’s got something for everyone, especially those that love traditional fantasy elements presented in a genre-bending way. Author (and Kyanite Publishing owner/Design Director) Sophia LeRoux loves to explore every layer of humanity, which is evident as you dive into Ashes. As early reviewers are saying, it’s also a quick read, so pick it up this weekend and let us know what you think!

“Just finished this amazing story and I’m breathless. A great mix of the fantasy and erotic worlds in a descriptive and terrifying setting. I was sucked in immediately and finished this in one day. The characters are fantastic! Go read this now!” – Michael D. Nadeau, author of The Darkness Returns: A Lynthinall Novel, Book One

Ms. Leroux’s writing in crime is reminiscent of Joseph Wambaugh but with some romance and fantasy thrown in. This was a quick and enjoyable read. Looking forward to the next installment. – David M. Williams

Join Our Book Club!

In an effort to expand our community and reach readers in new ways, we’ve created a book club! We will be facilitating it in our Discord server, which you can join here. Discord is a place to chat, and our server is separated into categories and channels, each with their own topics.

All individuals who join will have access to a separate category of channels called the “Kyanite Book Club” and underneath they’ll see a channel for each book that’s selected.

Every month, we’ll select two books: one in the science fiction genre, and one in the fantasy/horror genre. Readers will be able to choose which titles interest them and interact only in the channels they’d like to. In other words, each book will have its own space and will be like its own club.

Benefits of Membership

We’ll be offering anyone who joins and participates in the channel a 30% discount off the eBook, paperback, or hardcover edition of the selected book(s) through our website. The coupon code will be posted in the channel. Readers are also welcome to purchase their book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or through their local indie bookstore and still participate in the book club channels!

The author of each selected book will be informed ahead of time, so they’ll occasionally pop in and interact with readers. We’ll also schedule a general Q&A with them that will take place LIVE in the Discord channel!

We also hope that readers will gain a sense of community from this endeavor, possibly even branching out to the other Kyanite Discord channels. They may even make new friends or professional connections.

Guidelines

All participants are expected to follow the Kyanite Publishing Discord server guidelines. They are posted inside the server under “Royal Decrees” and generally include being kind and respectful.

Upcoming Selections

July:

Citizen of Earth by Joseph Kassabian!

More Details

The coupon code will be posted as soon as the channel is set up, and prior to the beginning of the month, to give readers time to order and for us to fulfill those orders. Note again that readers can also choose to purchase the book elsewhere, or rent it from the library, and still participate in the channels!

Because it may take readers some time to receive and read their books, we’ll keep the channel for that book open for at least two months. So, if a book is selected for July, it doesn’t mean that the discount is only good in July or that the discussion can only happen in July. It can also roll into August, and if readers request it, we’ll keep the channel open even longer.

Our Role

We’ll be encouraging the participants in the channel to interact in a way that feels authentic for them. Should they choose to organize themselves, make use of the voice chat features in Discord, or request support from us to put together meetings, we’ll do everything we can to help. We will not be organizing any structured meetings beyond the live Q&A with the author, which will take place sometime in their selection month or the month following.

We look forward to hearing your feedback and hope to see you in Discord!

Sincerely,

The Kyanite Crew

Check out our newly integrated shop page!

Hello, readers!

We made some changes to our shop today! Instead of the “catalog” page we used to have, we now have a “shop” that’s fully integrated into your browsing experience.

You can now sort books by category, price, and popularity. You can also scroll between them with ease and view the contents of your cart from any page.

We hope these changes will improve your experience, and we look forward to hearing your feedback!

Stay tuned for more big announcements this month as we gear up to add even more enhancements to the website and our Discord server!

Sincerely,

The Kyanite Crew

Loose Body Parts: How to Keep them Attached in Fiction
by Constance Watson

Who here loves zombies? I know I do! Zombie stories are by far one of my favorite genres. But no matter how much you love zombies, that doesn’t mean that every character should be one, which unfortunately is what tends to happen. Unintended zombification can be a huge problem. Why, you ask?

Writer Wednesday Webcasts

As you may have seen on social media, we started a Writer Wednesday webcast last month. All of our authors and Kyanite Press contributors are invited to attend each week. We have a theme for each “episode” and so far we’ve talked about characters, world building, first drafts, author branding, and publishing.

Our last episode was recorded on 5/22/2019, and it marked the first time we had invited authors who weren’t associated with our publishing company to attend. The topic was publishing, and we had been looking forward to a roundtable full of experience in self-publishing, hybrid publishing, and traditional small and large press publishing.

Our target audience for these webcasts are both readers and writers who are curious about the publishing industry and the craft of writing. We’re very pleased so far with the turnout and we’re planning to expand our YouTube channel with additional webcasts. We’re also planning to move into podcasting, which we’ll be experimenting with later this year.

If you haven’t yet, check out our YouTube channel and subscribe! If you’re feeling especially generous, share it with your friends and family who love reading or writing!
